Planning The Next Adventure

I have been busy planning the next adventure north. Unfortunately, it is still 12 months away but it is shaping up to be something special.

I’ll admit freely that I have been seduced entirely by the Northern Lights, by the sheer beauty of Norway, and by the stunning landscapes of the arctic north. It is not surprising then that this next trip will again take in Norway, though not the Lofoten Islands. I love Lofoten, and as much as I would like to squeeze it in, it is just not possible this time. Instead, Senja and Tromso are the Norwegian destinations, but supplemented further by the winter wonder of Lapland in both Finland and Sweden.

Lapland will be everything that the name conjures up in one’s mind…..rustic cabins in the remote wilderness, deep snows and freezing temperatures, northern lights, snowmobiles, reindeer, saunas and hot-tubs, Sami culture and all things Finland and Sweden.

The itinerary stretching over 4 weeks is intended to look a little like this :-

Flight to Helsinki for one night
Overnight Ferry to Stockholm
Overnight Train to Abisko to join a 4 night Lights Over Lapland tour
Train to Narvik and Bus to Harstad in the north of Lofoten
Hurtugruten day cruise to Tromso for a couple of nights
Drive from Tromso to Senja for 4 nights
Drive back to Tromso and fly to Helsinki
Fly to Ivalo and drive to Inari for 4 nights
Drive down to Rovaniemi after nights in Sodanklya and Levi/Kittila
Overnight train to Heksinki before flying home

It will be epic.
